We purchased the 176 acre former beef operation in 2008 and began planting in 2009.  45 acres are tillable sand, loam and clay and the rest is primarily wetlands (feeding the Tay River Watershed) and mixed forest.
Greenwood Organics is committed to providing the local community with organic produce, especially heritage varieties rich in taste and nutritional value-- nourishing the land and the community. Currently, 2 acres are under cultivation with half committed to green manures as part of the farm's crop rotation program. As well as garlic and the major root and annual vegetables, asparagus and raspberries have been planted which will be available in future years. We are certified organic by OC-Pro and are members of the Canadian Organic Growers, Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario and National Farmers Union.
Greenwood Organics sells at the Perth Market and can be found on the plates of the Fall River Restaurant.

Kricklewood Farm had its beginnings in Atlanta Georgia where I took a goat cheesemaking class at a local Saanen Dairy.  I also learned that goat milk also makes amazing soap that is gentle for the skin and smells great too.    The city lot grew too small for our poultry flock, bee hive and goats were definitely out of the question!    My partner and I were planning a move back to Canada (we both grew up in Winnipeg, lived in Montreal then Atlanta).  I have family near Ottawa and visited the area and found a fabulous stone farm house on 90 acres and moved in June 15th of this year.   We are starting off with goat milk soap, bees wax candles, laying hens and a vegetable plot with herbs and cut flowers.

The best thing about raising lamb and sheep is the connection we make with our customers. It is great to hear what is going on in their lives and it is especially gratifying to get feedback on our lamb" declares the Natural Lamb team. Our lambs are raised by their mothers in open air and sunshine on lush, rotating pastures. This lifestyle results in leaner, "heart healthy" meat that is popular with consumers. Their product was a prize winner at the 2007 Feast of Fields.

In 2007, Kristine Swaren and Malcolm Williams brought a shared love of the land together to work with Mother Nature in a beautiful valley in Lanark Highlands. Malcolm's bees produce golden honey from native wildflowers, trees and the garden plants. Malcolm also makes furniture from cedar, ironwood and maple harvested from the 170-acre property. Kristine trained with an herbalist and a biodynamic farmer and works with Canadian Organic Growers.
In the photo are some of the WWOOFers who help on the farm (WWOOF=World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) - we welcome local exchange-help as well.
Blue Chicory Garden will attain organic certification in 2010 with Ecocert. Products are available at the farm gate, Perth Farmers Market, McDonald's Corners Farmers Market and through home deliveries. We are committed to being local farmers to our neighbours and nearby communities.
Production methods include the use of compost and cover crops to improve soil health, and the incorporation of biodynamic and permaculture practices. Kristine and Malcolm are members of the Canadian Organic Growers, Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario, Lanark Organic Growers Guild, and Lanark County Slow Food.
