The Lanark County Harvest Festival is going to have an insert about this year's Festival included in the Citizen on the Wednesday before the event (Sunday, September 10th).
Please get your registration in to Cassandra at Beckwith Township first thing tomorrow morning if you want your farm to be included.

Lanark County Harvest Festival - June 23rd deadline to be included in Ottawa Citizen insert

We are looking forward to this year’s Harvest Festival taking place on Sunday, September 10th 2017, at Beckwith Park (1319 9th Line) in Beckwith Township. As in previous years, the event schedule includes live music, cooking demonstrations, agricultural displays, petting zoo, face painting, a giant air bounce and the Harvest Church Supper.

NEW! Promotional efforts are being increased this year:

1. Over 10,000 copies of the Lanark County Harvest Festival full colour event guide will printed and distributed in the Ottawa Citizen’s as an insert in the Food section in August.

2. Additionally, a series of “Farmer Profiles” are being posted on social media channels from March 2017 to March 2018, sending the Harvest Festival website link to an estimated 5,000 people each month, year-round.

3. A new page has been created on the Harvest Festival website entitled “Farmer profiles” which provides a special highlight to those vendors that have participated in the Harvest Festival since its inception. Profiles to date have been published at http://www.harvestfestival.ca/farmer-proflles.html

4. Finally, 10 new event signs have been purchased and will be installed around Lanark County, advertising the Harvest Festival for three weeks prior to the event.

To have your farm included in the Ottawa Citizen insert, we need you to register before June 23rd.

If you know of any young farmers in Lanark County who might not have heard about the National Farmers Union, please consider inviting them as the meeting is open to prospective members. Associate membership is available to NFU supporters who do not currently have a farm business number but wish to participate in this progressive farm organization.

Coral Sproule will be speaking about her work as the National Women's President.

Free garden seeds! Free garden advice! What a great way to spend a winter Saturday morning! For the sixth year in a row, the McDonald’s Corners Farmers’ Market invites you to bring seeds and friends to our annual Seed Swap – and take home different seeds and new friendships. Come join us on Saturday, February 25th, 10 am to 1 pm, at the MERA Schoolhouse.

Here’s what we’ll be doing:

Sharing seeds. Bring seeds - the ones you saved from last year's garden or the left-overs (commercial or saved) that you didn't plant. Bring containers (small bottles or envelopes, plus labels and markers) for the new-to-you seeds that you’ll take home. Our focus is vegetable seeds, but we share herb and flower seeds as well.

Learning seeds. We need to take responsibility for preserving the plants we cherish and the rich diversity that is ours. Find out how to get quality seed from your plants and why this is important.

Planning seeds. Some crops are tricky to save true-to-type seeds, so co-ordinating who’s growing what means we can develop seed specialized for our local growing conditions, and we can also save seed for crops such as squash which need large isolation distances so that they don’t cross-pollinate.

theHumm Annual CSA Promotion - Feb issue!

For the past two years, theHumm has created a full-page promotion for local CSAs in their February issue, at a cost of only $50 (plus HST) per listing, and they are currently inviting CSAs in their coverage area to participate in the 2017 version.

This year, thanks to a partnership with another publisher, 2000 additional copies of their February and March issues will be distributed on Parenting Times magazine racks in choice locations in west Ottawa, including Kanata, Stittsville and Carp, so your listing will be seen by even more readers!
